Buccaneer’s Bounty Review

Every aspect of Buccaneer’s Bounty is positively piratey. The background depicts a lush tropical island with sunny blue skies and a pirate ship headed for shore. Symbols are drawn in a cartoonish style and there’s quite a variety of pirate artifacts represented on the reels. The symbols, from lowest value to highest, include a set of kegs, a skull with crossed swords, a map, a cannon, three gold coins, and a parrot. There are three higher valued symbols. The sunset island starts off this set, while a scallywag has the medium-high value and the highest one is the Cap’n-a lovely red-headed lady wielding a curved sword.

Sound effects rival any hit movie, with an adventurous orchestra track accompanying the reels when they spin. A treasure chest perched atop a pile of gold coins serves as the wild symbol substitute and can replace all but the Pirate Ship Scatter.

Features

The Treasure Chest Wild awards bonus coins depending on how many show up on the reels on a single spin. One earns you 2 bonus coins, 2 Treasure Chest Wild symbols provides 10, 3 Treasure Chest Wild symbols will deliver 175, while 4 Treasure Chest Wild symbols will grant you a generous 1,000 coins. If you’re lucky enough to land 5 wilds at once, you’ll score a whopping 6,000 bonus coins.

The Pirate Ship scatter symbol features a black ship silhouetted against a blue and purple sky. If you land on 3 or more of these from left to right, you’ll win 10 free games (a.k.a. free spins) at the same bet amount of the triggering spin. This feature can be retriggered, and you can also enter the Bonus Game while playing in Free Spins mode.

Interactive Bonus Rounds

If you land the Golden Treasure Chest symbol on reels 1 and 5 during a single spin, you’ll find yourself launched into the second-screen Bonus Game. Once this bonus is activated, you are taken into another screen where you can play one of two ways.

Either choose to be a pirate who attacks the island, or choose to be one who defends the island from the invading pirates. Regardless of your choice, the way you play the game is the same, it’s just viewed from a slightly different setting. You’ll be given 10 cannonballs to shoot at advancing enemy ships which cruise across the screen one at a time.

Click each ship and one of your cannons will launch a cannonball at the ship. If it is hit, a number appears showing the multiplier that’s been won. This number can be as high as 25X the bet that triggered the round. If you miss hitting the ship, you’ll see a red X instead of a green checkmark on your scoreboard. After all 10 cannonballs have been used, your score is tallied and you’re taken back to the main game.
