FinnCap Ltd is a British investment bank and corporate and institutional stockbroker based in London. It operates in four business areas: Investment Banking, Equity Market Research, Institutional Sales and Trading and Market Making.

The firm advises and raises capital for growing technology, consumer, and support companies. services, manufacturing, oil and gas, mining, biotech and healthcare, finance and real estate. In addition to its core business, finnCap also develops a business that focuses on raising money for private growth companies. finnCap’s corporate clients range in market capitalization from <£50 million to c£1 billion. Firms conduct research on 150 companies and markets within 130 stocks, the alternative investment market, the junior market of the London Stock Exchange to the main market of the London Stock Exchange.

FinnCap employs around 80 people and 95% of the workforce is employee-owned. The company is led by Sam Smith, CEO and Chairman John Moulton.

History

finnCap was founded in 2007 after buying out 50% of JM Finn’s corporate consultants and brokerage division. The buyout was completed in May 2010 when the remaining 50% of the company was acquired from JM Finn, making the company fully independent. At this time, the company also changed its name from JM Finn Capital Markets Ltd to finnCap Ltd, in line with the company’s trading name.

In 2013, finnCap received regulatory approval to begin market operations and in 2014 became an FCA sponsor for operations in the main market.

finnCap has raised over £1.5 billion for its clients since its buyout from JM Finn. The company was among the top five corporate brokers in Extel Survey 2016 and was named Broker of the Year at the Grant Thornton Quoted Company Awards 2016.
